I have worked as a support worker and then a social worker in mental health services since 1997. In 2007 I qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) co-ordinating Mental Health Act assessments. All my mental health work has been in both inner and outer-London.
As a support worker I worked in residential and outreach settings. As a social worker I have worked on a mental health ward and in community mental health teams, in assertive outreach, dual diagnosis, recovery and assessment teams. This has been a mixture of long-term care co-ordination work and initial assessments with brief interventions. I’ve also been a practice assessor with social worker students and social workers training to be AMHPs
I have worked in EASL full-time since 2018, mainly supporting homeless outreach teams to assess people who are rough sleeping, either through case management meetings or carrying out mental health social work assessments face-to-face with clients. I also support the Floating Hub run by St Mungo’s, carrying out mental health assessments to support the hub’s work helping people get into stable accommodation and/or to facilitate referrals into statutory services.
