Sustaining Tenancies Accommodation & Resettlement (STAR) is a four-year project run by Shelter in partnership with Thames Reach, St Mungo’s, and Stonewall Housing. It operates across the capital to help people sleeping rough or in danger of becoming homeless. Shelter and Thames Reach provide support to people with housing complex needs, including those in rough sleeping hotspots, and those at risk of losing their tenancy due to anti-social behaviour, poor mental health, or drug and alcohol issues. Through STAR, service users are able to access specialist housing, general welfare benefit and debt advice, training and employment, and improve their physical and mental health.
EASL supports this work with rough sleepers and those vulnerably housed, to achieve better outcomes for individual clients and to increase STAR's capacity and resilience in working with people with complex needs.
The Tenancy Sustainment Team (TST) at Thames Reach works across South London boroughs, helping people who have experienced rough sleeping to manage the transition away from street or hostel living into more independent accommodation, enabling them to rebuild their lives.
Staff provide tailored support until the individual is able to live more independently, helping them to build confidence, acquire life skills and access training and employment. The key worker then remains available should the further help be required. The team also works to improve general health and wellbeing, helping people to maintain relationships and access appropriate health and care services.
EASL input is to offer direct assistance in achieving better outcomes for individual clients and to offer input to increase TST's capacity and resilience in working with people with complex needs.
